Terms & Conditions

The key things to know when using Smoovie.

Seller of record

Smoovie is the seller of record for tickets sold through smoovie.uk. This means we take payment at checkout, provide the transaction record, and then settle the money to venues and rights holders under the agreed terms, which can vary from film to film.

Payment flow and fees

When someone buys a ticket through Smoovie, we process the payment, apply the relevant booking and transaction fees, allocate any agreed share to rights holders, and pay the venue the remaining balance.

Smoovie currently takes a 10% transaction fee, which helps cover card costs, platform costs and the ongoing running of the project.

Card payments and cash

Smoovie ticket sales are currently card online only. We do not support cash payments through the Smoovie system yet.

We know that cash is still king in many rural areas, and we want to support it in future. We need to work this out carefully with our venues and industry partners so that box office reporting stays clear, accurate and transparent for everyone involved.

Films booked outside Smoovie

If a venue uses Smoovie tools for a film that has been licensed elsewhere, the venue is responsible for making sure it has the correct permission or licence in place directly with the relevant rights holder.

Venues may be asked to upload evidence of this licence in the Smoovie system. This is important because unlicensed screenings undermine the whole model that allows filmmakers, distributors and venues to be paid fairly.

Screenings and responsibilities

Each screening is hosted by the listed venue. The venue is responsible for the event itself, including opening times, access, facilities, staffing, food and drink, seating, local communication, and any health and safety requirements.

Smoovie provides the ticketing, film programme, reporting and playout tools.

Cancellations, refunds and exchanges

Online ticket refunds are not currently available through Smoovie.

If you are not sure whether you can attend a screening, please bear this in mind before booking online.

If you are unhappy with a screening event, it is best to speak to the venue first. If the issue cannot be resolved, please contact Smoovie support.

Venues can issue Smoovie exchange tokens where appropriate. These can be used at future screenings when paying on the door, although they do not currently work through the online ticketing system.

Rights holder settlements

Distributors and filmmakers who license work through Smoovie invoice us after the agreed run for a pre-agreed percentage of ticket income.

We are trying to strike a fair balance between compensating the makers, rights holders and distributors who bring these films to audiences, while also supporting the venues and local organisers who make screenings happen.

Transparency and compliance

Venues receive clear statements in their venue portal showing sales, fees, rights allocations and net payouts.

Smoovie also complies with the relevant legal and tax obligations connected to the fees charged through the platform.

Smoovie is not currently VAT registered, so VAT is not added to Smoovie ticket fees. Some distributors and rights holders are VAT registered, and any VAT that applies to their share is handled within the relevant settlement process.

Questions and contact

For questions about a specific screening, including times, accessibility, parking, seating, food and drink, or venue facilities, please contact the venue directly.

For checkout, online ticketing or platform issues, please contact Smoovie support through the contact page.

Please note that Smoovie is currently a small project run by Will and Nadia alongside other work, so it may take us a few days to reply.
