Whether you’re a community volunteer group, an entrepreneur or individual who’s always dreamed of running a cinema, or a staffed venue looking to expand your cultural programme, Smoovie makes it easy, affordable, and low-risk to bring film to your community.
Who It’s For
- Community groups & village halls — bring regular film nights to your space with no up-front licence fees.
- Individuals & entrepreneurs — start a local cinema, build an audience, and earn fairly from screenings.
- Theatres & staffed venues — add independent film alongside your programme without extra admin.
Why Smoovie?
- No up-front licence fees: simple revenue-share after each screening instead of fixed costs.
- Built-in marketing tools: automatic posters, schedules, newsletters, and a venue page on smoovie.uk.
- Varied programme: international new releases, independents, and family favourites.
- Pre-show included: add venue events, sponsor slides, or community notices to the big screen.
- Low admin: we handle rights, ticketing, reporting, and automatic monthly payouts.
How It Works
- Say hello at [email protected] and tell us about your space and goals.
- We set you up with your venue portal, programme, and pre-show tools.
- Download the film pack via the Smoovie player on your Windows laptop — it plays offline on the night.
- Sell tickets online, scan at the door, press Play, and receive your payout automatically each month.
The Cinema Manager role
Smoovie works best with a named person who owns your film programme — your cinema manager. This can be a volunteer, an existing staff member, or a local creative who wants to run screenings. They’ll pick titles, share posters and links, and make sure showtime runs smoothly.
What you need
- A Windows 10/11 laptop or PC for playback (films play offline on the night)
- An iPhone or iPad for ticket scanning and card payments
- A SumUp card reader
- Projector, screen, and basic speakers
- One named person (staff or volunteer) to run screenings

About the pre-show
Before the film, you can include upcoming events, local adverts or sponsor slides, and community thank-yous. It’s a simple way to promote your venue and bring in extra income.
Working with councils & support organisations
We work with local councils and organisations supporting community buildings across the UK to offer promotional options to their venues. If you’re part of a network, mention it in your email and we’ll explore what’s available in your area.
